Sit back and give yourself a minute to think about how you handle opposition. This can be opposition about anything .... when someone disagrees with you ... or when you are in your yoga practice and you are trying to find balance between the push and the pull or the reach and the grounding .... or when you are in a traffic nightmare and you are going in a direction but standing still. Oppositions do serve us because opposites attract and you cannot have one without the other. When tragedy occurs we that is when our Good side really shines. Tragedy is what makes us more compassionate, empathetic and sympathetic. Strange how that is. Why does it have to come to that? Today's music video below will challenge you to get out of your political head and make the words more personal to you. I just LOVE this song. When I practice yoga at home, this is my song and my anthem that I turn up and say, "It's you and me God. Let's do this!" Listen to the lyrics and make it personal. Enjoy the prayer, perhaps it will give you a better feel for opposition when you encounter it.
How do I meet hostility and opposition?
"A certain amount of opposition is a great help to a man. Kites rise against, not with, the wind."
~Lewis Mumford
No matter what the circumstance, I always come out of it better and stronger.
For a more enriching experience, go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, today's reading below shows a clear example of how Jesus faced opposition wherever He went and handled it with determination and grace. Jesus felt no need to fight or argue with people and He always met them where they were. If they did not accept Him, then He accepted it. He stood His ground and did not back down and He didn't have to fight or argue to do it. He made His point and left it at that.
In all of the readings where Jesus faces opposition, no one really treats Him with indifference. How could they? They either accepted Him and His claims or they denied Him and rejected everything He said. This causes me to look at my position with Jesus and how I handle the opposition when it comes to the subject matter of Jesus. I know that I can stand strong in my belief in Jesus without having to get loud, obnoxious and argumentative when I face opposition. Either I believe everything Jesus said and claimed to be or I do not. It can be argued that there is an in-between space to debate the subject matter of Jesus but there is no in-between space. Either one believes everything Jesus said and claimed to be or one does not. Jesus never danced around the subject matter of You, the Father, and I will not dance around the subject matter of Jesus, or You, or that He is You in The Flesh.
When I face opposition on the subject matter of Jesus, I will hold my ground and I will not engage in hostility or argument. If one is trying to understand and discuss the subject matter of Jesus, that is a lot different than one standing in their ego trying to be right and intellectualizing Jesus. I get it. Thank You for this clear awareness of how opposition can only make me stronger.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30
1 After this Jesus went about in Galilee; He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him.
2 Now the Jews' feast of Tabernacles was at hand.
10 But after His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He also went up, not publicly but in private.
25 Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, "Is not this the man whom they seek to kill?
26 And here He is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to Him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ?
27 Yet we know where this man comes from; and when the Christ appears, no one will know where He comes from."
28 So Jesus proclaimed, as He taught in the temple, "You know Me, and you know where I come from? But I have not come of My own accord; He who sent Me is true, and Him you do not know.
29 I know Him, for I come from Him, and He sent Me."
30 So they sought to arrest Him; but no one laid hands on Him, because His hour had not yet come.
