FEVERFEW
(Chrysanthemum parthenium)

FEVERFEW (Chrysanthemum parthenium)

Feverfew

DESCRIPTION: Feverfew contains high amounts of the minerals iron, niacin, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and selenium. It also contains smaller levels of the minerals silicon, sodium and zinc. Feverfew also contains the Vitamins A and C. Parthenolide is the active ingredient in Feverfew and helps red blood cells [RBC's] to move through the smaller blood vessels in the head to maintain proper circulation and fluid balance. Feverfew contains properties that work with the body to regulate normal body function.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS: Feverfew may help to reduce the severity of migraine symptoms. Feverfew had been used in the past in the same way that aspirin and codeine are used today.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS: Individuals who are sensitive may develop mouth ulcers from eating the fresh leaves. Avoid Feverfew during pregnancy. Because it contains high levels of niacin, a niacin flush may present itself.

PARTS USED: The leaves and flowers.

GENERAL USAGE: Feverfew has been used to treat aches, ague, allergies, arthritis, chills, circulation, colds and flu symptoms, digestion, dizziness, female problems, headaches, migraines, hot flashes, insect bites, menopausal symptoms, promotes menstruation, nervousness, pain, sinus headaches and sinus congestion, tinnitus and vertigo.
